Background
Biography
Long ago before the Giants protected Skylands, Tree Rex was a majestic tree living peacefully in the ancient woods. But this tranquil peace came to an end when the Arkeyans built a nearby factory to produce war machines. After years of his soil being poisoned by the magic and tech waste from the factory, he mutated into who he is now - a powerful Giant who will crush anything that threatens the natural order of things.
Story
History
Tree Rex, along with the other Giants, participated in the fight against the Arkeyans for the freedom of Skylands. To truly stop their tyrannical foe, the Giants confronted the Arkeyan King himself and his army of War Machines. Tree Rex delivered the final blow to the Arkeyan King after the monarch was weakened by the other Giants, causingthe King to be torn from the Iron Fist of Arkus that was the source of his power. Although they were victorious in their battle against the Arkeyans, the Iron Fist of Arkus used the last of its remaining powers to sweep the Giants from Skylands and banished them to Earth, where they would remain for 10,000 years.
Abilities
After being mutated by the factorial waste of both the Magic and Tech element, not only was Tree Rex turned into a lumbering behemoth, he was also gifted with the power to fire lasers from his right arm cannon and enhance his right arm to grow spikes to slam down on surrounding enemies to deal more damage.

Trivia
- Tree Rex was the first Giant revealed in the debut trailer of Skylanders: Giants.
- His Photosynthesis Cannon is similar to Megaman's Mega Buster and Samus' (from Metroid) Arm cannon .
- He uses his right arm for all of his attacks (except the Woodpecker Pal).
- His name is a play on the abbreviation of the Dinosaur name T-Rex (The full name is Tyrannosaurus rex).
- He and Stump Smash are the only Skylanders who resemble trees. Also, both are voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.
- In the Skylanders: Giants Obey Commercial, Tree Rex's voice is identical to Captain America from The Super Hero Squad Show.
- Because of that, it is likely that in the commercials, Tree Rex is voiced by Tom Kenny (except in the Easter Surprise commercial).
- The name "Tree Rex" was first used in the 3DS versions of the Stump Demons in Spyro's Adventure.
- In Skylanders: Universe, his eyes are green.
- The battle cry "Giants rule!" might be a reference to the debut trailer, as Trigger Happy said that same line at the end.
- He is also one of the Skylanders not to have an upgrade path for his primary attack, the others being Camo, Ghost Roaster, and Lightning Rod.
- Tree Rex's elemental symbol is on his forehead.
- Upon acquiring the final upgrade of either path, Tree Rex gains new armor, however, his stats don't change.
- It is possible that he originally was going to have an armor upgrade, and the armor that appears is merely leftover from that.
- His catchphrase is a play on one of Hex's battle cries, "Be afraid of the dark!"
- The appearance of the Woodpecker Pal is based on the ivory billed woodpecker, which is thought to be extinct. This is likely to be a reference to the fact that he is from 10,000 years ago.
- Tree Rex is the leader of the Giants.
- In the game Skylanders: Lost Islands he has a house with his face that is an touristic point in Skylands.
- The Woodpecker Pal has made her nest on top of Tree Rex's back. It is possible that Tree Rex provides a safe place for her nest, while she helps protect Tree Rex in return.
