Summer Forest is the first homeworld of Avalar in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. It is here where Spyro was formally introduced to Elora, Hunter, and the Professor. The young dragon learned how to swim in this area and confronts the first boss, Crush.

Description[]

This beautiful core world is a little niche of land covered in tall, majestic trees and fed by a small pond and several running streams. Inside the dip of land lays the first of Avalar’s castles, surrounded by a small rampart and large pillars, as well as grassy forests. This world is constantly stuck in Summer, making it the hottest of the core worlds in Avalar. Inside the castle are small pools of water, marble statues, and a few indoor gardens. However, since Ripto terrorized it, the only way inside the castle is through one of its high windows or an underwater passage found under the pond.

Story[]

At the beginning of the game, at Glimmer, Elora told Spyro to meet up with her in Summer Forest, deciding to follow Ripto and see what he was up to.

Just before Spyro arrived, Ripto and his accomplices, Crush and Gulp, broke into the castle of Summer Forest and kicked Moneybags, who owned it, out. Elora introduced herself to Spyro, and when he mentioned that the Gemcutters had given him a Talisman, she told him that there were 14 other magical talismans as well. Hunter soon had come into the forest and Elora asked him where he was. Hunter told her that he "got a little lost," and Elora mentioned that there was no way that Spyro could reach Dragon Shores due to Ripto's conquest of the castle. Spyro agreed to help out.

Later on, Spyro learned from Elora how the crisis started, preceding his battle with Crush.

After, Ripto tried to send Gulp out to fight Spyro as well, only to have the roof fall on top of them. The two fled the castle, and the game progressed onto the next world.

Orbs Challenges[]

Hunter's Challenge[]

The Challenge

This challenge involves a mixture of jumping maneuvers that Spyro will need to master to make his way through the levels. Hunter will perform a specific jump across to the next platform, and then Spyro will have to mimic that jump and also jump over to the next platform.

  • The first part of the challenge involves jumping up one step. When you get close to the step, press X to jump. Join Hunter at the top.
  • The second part involves a Glide. To glide, run towards the edge and jump (tap X). Then at the top of your jump, hold X in again to glide to the next platform.
  • The third part of the challenge involves a hover. To make it to the next platform, Spyro must perform a normal glide but tap 'triangle' at the last second to get an extra little jump at the end. Follow Hunter up the stairs.
  • The fourth and final part of the challenge is a "Running Hover." To complete this, you must run to the edge of the platform, and perform a normal hover trying to get as much length as you can. Once you have completed this jump, you will meet Hunter on the final platform where you will be rewarded with an Orb.

Behind The Door[]

Two large wooden doors are operated by the Red/Green Switch in front of the doors. When the switch is activated; One door opens, The other one closes. This challenge will require you to jump from the window to the left and into the window further up so that you can get the orb. Once you have jumped from window to window, the orb will be past the second door lying on a platform.

On a Secret Ledge[]

To complete this Challenge, Spyro will need to walk back to the area where the Glimmer Portal is located and follow the stream down until it turns into a pond. Use Spyro's swimming ability to dive and then follow a tunnel until you can re-surface inside a cave. Jump up the ledges provided, and an orb will be lying on the window-sill.

Atop a Ladder[]

Inside the castle, there is an orb on a ledge atop a ladder that Elora is standing next to beside the portal to Hurricos. Spyro will need the Climb ability to climb the ladder and reach the ledge for them to get a few gems and gain the Orb.

Glitch[]

There is a famous "walk in water" glitch located in this homeworld (as well as many others throughout the entire Spyro series- water-based glitches being the most common due to the interface of the pools of water and the diving mechanisms of the characters). Gliding outside left, from the ledge near Colossus will lead to an unprotected area, and allow one to land inside the water passage without diving.

Trivia[]

  • A game design document for Spyro 2 reveals that Summer Forest was originally called Summer Spring Forest.[1]
  • Summer Forest is mentioned in the novel Skylanders: The Machine of Doom, where Spyro had played at the time of Master Eon's arrival to his world. It is unknown if this Summer Forest is the same one from the original series or a completely revamped version.
  • There are a few ways you can fight Crush and move on to the next world without getting all the talismans right after you learn to swim using the double jump glitch. One way is to use the double jump to jump out of the ledge right next to the wall blocking Aquaria Towers, providing you didn't pay Moneybags to lower it already, and fly out of the window leading out of bounds and fly into the chute leading to Crush. Another way is to stand under one of the button-operated doors that lead to Aquaria Towers and Crush and flame the button, so the door closes on you. If you look up with the triangle button, you'll notice an open square where you can use the double jump glitch to jump out of, and fly around and into the chute leading to Crush's Dungeon.
  • The theme was remixed during Nancy's ice dancing sidequest in Icy Peak.
  • Not counting boundary breaking, this is the only homeworld in the game where Spyro cannot die.
  • Summer Forest is one of two homeworlds in the game to have Talismans, the other being Autumn Plains.
  • A map based on Summer Forest appears as a competitive map in Crash Team Rumble. It also appears in Party Mode as Forest Run.
