Speedways (known as Flights in the original game) are a flying type of realm in the original Spyro series. In these speedways, Spyro, or, in Spyro: A Hero's Tail, Sgt. Byrd, must fly around in an obstacle course, either flaming/charging obstacles (or using missles if playing AHT) or going through obstacles before the alloted time finishes.

AppearancesEdit

Spyro the DragonEdit

In Spyro the Dragon, Speedways are called "Flights". There are four different obstacles per flight, and each obstacle comes in sets of eight. Spyro must fly around and destroy or activate all these obstacles by either flaming them or going through them. For each set, Spyro will earn 60 gems, and once all sets are completed in one go, Spyro will receive the remaining sixty gems for the flight, for a total of a possible 300 gems.

Spyro has 30 seconds (Night/Crystal/Wild at 25 seconds & Icy Flight at 28 seconds, respectively) to complete this task at the beginning of the flights, though each item collected will earn Spyro a few seconds extra.

SpeedwaysEdit

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!Edit

In Ripto's Rage!, speedways are similar to those of the first game except each speedway has a secret Hunter Minigame, and you compete for, not just gems, but orbs as well.

SpeedwaysEdit

Spyro: Year of the DragonEdit

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the speedways are different. Each speedway is hosted by Sparx, and you are given a choice of Time attack or Race. Time Trial is similar to the original speedway challenge. Race is when you have to race a group of characters from the speedway, such as pilots or giant butterflies. Hunter is also hiding around in each speedway.

In the normal version of the game, the speedways all share the same theme. In the Greatest Hits version, the first three speedways are given their own themes, while Harbor Speedway keeps the classic theme as its own theme.

SpeedwaysEdit

Spyro: Enter the DragonflyEdit

In Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, speedways are similar to in Spyro: Year of the Dragon as Sparx hosts the speedways and you can choose whether to do a Time attack or Race. However, In Enter the Dragonfly, speedways appear as Minigames and can be accessed through portals in realms. Speedways in Enter the Dragonfly no longer contain a Hunter minigame.

SpeedwaysEdit

Spyro: Season of IceEdit

In Spyro: Season of Ice, the speedways are very different. Each object that must be passed through, or each enemy that must be destroyed will come at you one at a time. If you miss one thing in any category, you cannot go back to get it unless you restart the speedway. Each speedway is concluded with a mini-boss battle, each mini-boss being a dragon similar to the Chinese Fire Dragons from the Fireworks Factory, where the dragons have long bodies that are divided into circular sections that can be destroyed until only the head is left.

Spyro: A Hero's TailEdit

In Spyro: A Hero's Tail, you now play as Sgt. James Byrd in speedways. There are four speedways; one for each realm. Like in the preverous games, you gotta destroy enemies and objects and go through rings to win. Beating the speedway the first time earns a Dragon Egg, while the second time, it earns you a Light Gem.
