The Sorceress is an evil ruler of all the Forgotten Realms and the main antagonist of Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

The Sorceress is depicted as a malicious queen and a hungry witch. She is a dictator who typically sends her minions, the Rhynocs, to do the dirty work for her. She captures any well-meaning creature that she encounters, but stupidly lets Moneybags guard the cages. The Sorceress even tries to imprison Hunter, but it does no good as he persuades Bianca to join the side of good, and the two end up falling in love. The Sorceress is not related to the Sorcerer.

[edit] Year of the Dragon
Many years prior to the events of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the Sorceress had an argument with a Dragon Elder and grew so enraged that she banished him -- and the rest of the Dragons -- to the other side of the world. She was not aware at the time that the Dragons were the source of her magic. When her magical power started dwindling she soon found this to be the case.
The Dragons who are peaceful creatures, chose not to bother with her again. They settled peacefully in what is now know as the Dragon Realms. Time passed, and with it passed the memory of the Sorceress and the aptly named "Forgotten Realms." The Sorceress, hungry for magical power and eager to take advantage of the dragons' ignorance, hatched an evil plan: she ordered her Rhynocs and her protege Bianca to steal all of the Dragon eggs in the dead of night. She planned to use the newly hatched dragons' wings to concoct a spell, allowing her to live forever. That plan failed as Spyro, with the help of Hunter, Agent 9, Sheila, Bentley, Sgt. James Byrd, and even Sparx, retrieved all 150 eggs.
When Spyro attempts to advance to a new homeworld in the Forgotten Realms, the Sorceress transfigures some unlucky Rhynoc into a monstrous beast intended to destroy Spyro. These creatues, namely Buzz, Spike and Scorch all fail to destroy Spyro and are instead destroyed themselves.
Her first defeat is in Midnight Mountain where Spyro and Agent 9 take her down by pushing her into the lava pool surrounding the arena. Upon her death, her wand flies out and the egg inside contains the Dragon George.
Amazingly, the Sorceress's tough hide protects her against the lava and she survives this initial defeat. Spitefully, she saves up her magic to try and defeat Spyro again in the Super Bonus Round. She fails a final time when Spyro shoots at her in a flying saucer and casts her into the pink acid surrounding the arena, killing her. Her new wand flies out, hatching to reveal the boy-girl twin Dragons, Yin and Yang. Finally, peace was restored to the Forgotten Realms.
