The Skylanders series is a game franchise that contains the concept of toys and video games coming together. Playable characters are unlocked in the game when their toy action figures are placed on a device called the Portal of Power. It serves as the second reboot in the Spyro franchise.

Skylanders
The Skylanders are the main playable characters in the Skylanders series. They are legendary heroes; champions in the world of Skylands. Their ancient mission is to protect Skylands and its magical Core of Light that kept the ultimate force behind all evil, The Darkness, at bay. Using their magical powers and machinery, the Skylanders defended their world for generations.
Spyro the Dragon is a legendary champion and has earned the rank of being such a Skylander, and to be among the 32 champions that is kind of the forefront, the leaderish sort of the Skylanders.
Abilities
Each Skylander wields a single element: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Life, Undead, Magic, and Tech. So far, there are a total of 80 main Skylanders in the series.
Games
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure is the spin-off game in the Spyro series and the first game in the Skylanders series. This game is notable for having Spyro as the title character and as one of the main 32 playable Skylanders.
In this game, players take on the role of a powerful Portal Master, who can control over 30 different characters, including the beloved purple dragon, Spyro. Each of these heroes is a protector of an amazing, mysterious world, but they have been ejected from their world by the sinister Portal Master known as Kaos, and now, they are frozen in our world as toys. Only the players of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure can get them back into their world, by embarking on a fantastic journey where they will explore mythical lands, battle menacing, outlandish creatures, collect treasures, and solve challenging puzzles as a part of the quest to save their world.
Skylanders: Universe
Skylanders: Universe was an free online MMORPG game in Beta that was developed by Frima Studios. You took on the role as a new Portal Master and pick an island in Skylands to call your own. You started off with three Skylanders, Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Trigger Happy, and you could collect more as you go on, either by buying the interaction figures or purchasing the characters with in-game money. You explore Skylands while battling Pirates, Minions, and Goons while collecting coins which you will be able to purchase clothing items and upgrades when the full game was going to be released early 2012.
There were a number of mini games which you can play with your Skylander including Castle Assult, Sky Defense, Sheep Shot, Treasure Hunt, Swat!, and Roundup. Each element has different types of plants which your Skylander can eat as a snack to gain boost points which can be used in the Sky Defense and Castle Assult mini games.
Skylanders: Giants
A sequel to Spyro's Adventure. Kaos has returned to rule over Skylands, and it's up to the Portal Master and the Skylanders to stop him with the help of giant new allies.
Skylanders: Swap Force
The sequel to Giants that features Swap Force Skylanders. Kaos is back with a new evil plan, and it's up to the Portal Masters to use the Skylanders, and Swap Force Skylanders. to save the Cloudbreak Islands.

Skylanders: Cloud Patrol is a game for the iPad and iPhone. The Skylanders take sky patrol to defeat trolls that have escaped.
Skylanders: Lost Islands
Skylanders: Lost Islands is another game for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod.
Skylanders: Battlegrounds
Skylanders: Battlegrounds is a new game for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod. It is the first Skylanders iOS game to have a starter pack.
Books
Skylanders: The Machine of Doom
Skylanders: The Machine of Doom is the first novel in the Skylanders series and Spyro series. The Skylanders embark on a mission to stop Kaos from retrieving an Arkeyan arifact that will unlock a tomb that contains a terrifying weapon capable of destroying the Core of Light.

The second novel in the Skylanders and Spyro series, set to be released in January 2013.
