“Greetings, young Portal Master, I have been waiting for you. I am Eon, your guide in this world.”
    —Master Eon

Master Eon, or as his friends call him, Eon, is a veteran Portal Master who is one of the main supporting characters in the Skylanders series. He was the leader of the Skylanders before his duties were passed on to the new Portal Master.

Personality

Eon is known as the greatest among the Portal Masters. He has great knowledge over the history and realms of Skylands, and has utmost faith in his Skylanders. He also serves as a mentor to Spyro and the new Portal Master.

Story

History

As a humble servant boy, Eon started his life polishing pans in the kitchen of the Portal Master, Nattybumpo. When he was eight years old, it was realized that Eon was no ordinary boy when he accidentally activated Nattybumpo's portal and teleported him into the middle of The Dirt Seas.

Over the years, Eon became the greatest among the Portal Masters. He recruited many Skylanders to be the legendary champions of their world, having seen their potential and unique abilities that were capable of fighting the evil in Skylands. He led the Skylanders to protect the Core of Light and their world from the forces of darkness. Eventually, Eon became the last of the good Portal Masters and grew weaker with age as time passed. He knew that it was only a matter of time before The Darkness would return one day.

Skylanders: The Machine of Doom

After celebrating their latest triumph over the forces of evil with his Skylanders, Eon received news from his assistant, Hugo, and Flynn of flying sheep attacking the Mabu Market. Using his portal, Eon saw a vision of the Market being wrecked by shapes that looked like sheep, and he sent Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Eruptor to investigate the commotion. After discovering that Kaos was looking for the Chattering Key, an artifact used to unlock a tomb that contained an Arkeyan weapon, Eon allowed Spyro, Gill Grunt, Eruptor, and Boomer to go on a mission to stop Kaos from reaching the Key at the Forest of Fear. Although absent, the old Portal Master appeared as an hallucination of Spyro's worst fear, being chained and shackled by Kaos, who was mocking him. It was Eon's teachings that influenced Spyro to save Kaos from a fate the evil tyrant tried to bring upon the Skylanders in the collapsing Pyramid of Just Rewards.

After the Skylanders escaped from the pyramid, Eon transported to the Skylanders' location when the fog surrounding the Forest of Fear cleared up enough for him to open a portal. The old Portal Master and his Skylanders knew that Kaos' attack was just the beginning, but they celebrated their victory together as Gill Grunt began to sing.

Skylanders: Spyro versus The Mega Monsters

Master Eon was training few of his Skylanders, Spyro, Jet-Vac, Trigger Happy, and Drill Sergeant, in a session against a Goliath Drow illusion. The training ended when Spyro accidentally burned Trigger Happy and Drill Sergeant, and burning Master Eon's beard. The old Portal Master then heard the news from Stealth Elf of a terrifying monster within the Stinky Swamp and sent her and Spyro there to investigate. Upon hearing that Kaos has turned over a new leaf by beating evildoers, Master Eon was astonished to find out that the evil Portal Master had already taken care of problems around Skylands involving mega-sized animals before his Skylanders could have the chance to save the day.

Master Eon and his Skylanders were soon confronted by the Warrior Librarians of the Eternal Archives, lead by his old friend Wiggleworth, who had come to warn Master Eon that their Eternal Archives, a library that holds the dangerous books ever written, was in terrible danger. The old Portal Master then sent his Skylanders to help the Warrior Librarians in defending the Archives, to which they succeeded.

Master Eon congratulated Spyro on his victory in stopping Kaos, and was more surprised that the purple dragon shared the glory with his fellow Skylanders who assisted him. He then guided Spyro to the lower floors of the Archive after the young dragon heard that Wiggleworth wanted to show him something within the Archive's vault. The old Portal Master showed Spyro a book Kaos was after, the legendary Book of Power, a book of prophecy that shows the most dreadful predictions, such as the fall of the Skylanders, and Spyro himself...

Eon Book of Power

Master Eon using his power to reveal the secrets of the Book of Power.

Master Eon was in the vault of the Eternal Archives with Wiggleworth examining the Book of Power. When Spyro and Gill Grunt were called to get a look at the book, it showed a vision of the Core of Light being destroyed and darkness shrouding the skies, shocking them. Upon discovering that Kaos was after the Mask of Power to use it to destroy the Core of Light, Eon forced the Book of Power to reveal the secrets on where to find the fragments to the Mask, causing the book to conjure a freak storm within the vault. The old Portal Master managed to "persuade" the Book of Power to show where the next fragment to the Mask of Power lied, and instructed Gill Grunt to find the fragment, while Eon stayed behind with Spyro in the Eternal Archives to study the rest of the Book.

After the mission, the Skylanders seemed to have failed in their mission to retrieve the Water Fragment as Kaos supposedly got to it first. Gill Grunt then checked a satchel he brought back with him after his battle with Captain Grimslobber and held a dirty rag the captain had used to wrap the Fish Master's Crown. The rag soon revealed itself to be the Water Fragment, making the Skylanders realize that Kaos had stolen nothing more than a worthless broken crown. Master Eon then levitated the Water Fragment to his grasp, insisting that the fragment would be kept at the vault for safe keeping, but knew that this was far from over as Kaos would be after the next fragment to the Mask of Power...

Skylanders: Lightning Rod Faces the Cyclops Queen

Master Eon was attending the Annual Storm Giant Games when an accident caused Flynn's air balloon to spiral out of control. Thanks to the Skylanders present, they were able to save Flynn along with his passengers, Hugo and another Warrior Librarian, Squirmgrub. Hugo then told Master Eon that the Mask of Power had revealed the location of the next fragment to the Mask of Power, and that Squirmgrub had also discovered something about the malevolent item.

Eon and the Skylanders then discovered that the Air segment to the Mask of Power has seemingly taken on the form of a Land Whale, which was stationed at a zoo held by the Cyclops Queen at Tempest Towers. The old Portal Master Lightning Rod, Pop Fizz, Drobot, Double Trouble, Cali, and Flynn to the Tempest Towers that lied beyond the Sea of Storms in their mission to claim the Air fragment before Kaos made his move.

Skylanders: Terrafin Battles the Boom Brothers

Master Eon looked into the matter of Rocky being kidnapped by Kaos when Terrafin, Sonic Boom and Hot Dog were at the Fantastic Fairy Fair. The old Portal Master discovered a book that contained information on the exact whereabouts of the Boom Brothers, something Squirmgrub had deliberately hidden. Although both Master Eon and Terrafin knew that the Librarian's action was intentional, Eon believed it was an "honest mistake". After the Skylanders rescued Rocky, Eon extracted the true piece of the Earth segment to the Mask of Power from the stone golem, which was Rocky's unusual singing voice.

Skylanders: Cynder Confronts the Weather Wizard

Master Eon instructed Skylanders, Cynder, Hex, and Zook to head to the Isle of the Dead to answer the plea for help and find out about the cause of the mysterious weather conditions around Skylands. However, during the Skylanders' mission, the great Portal Master was kidnapped by the traitorous Squirmgrub, who also stole five pieces to the Mask of Power for Kaos.

Stump Smash Crosses the Bone Dragon

While being held captive by Kaos, Master Eon was turned to stone by the rampaging Bone Dragon. The old Portal Master was later returned to normal when Stump Smash and his Skylander group convinced the Dragon to unpetrify everyone he attacked. With quick spells, Master Eon subdued Kaos and shattered Squirmgrub's armor suit for his treachery.

Trigger Happy Targets the Evil Kaos

Master Eon enlisted Spyro, Trigger Happy, and Smolderdash to Wool Mountain to find the last fragment to the Mask of Power.

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure

Spyro, Master Eon, and Trigger Happy

While watching over the Core of Light one day with Spyro and Trigger Happy, Master Eon was confronted by The Darkness and Kaos; the latter having returned from his exile in the Outlands to once again attempt to destroy the Core of Light and rule Skylands. Master Eon led his Skylanders against Kaos's forces in defending the great machine, but the evil tyrant succeeded in destroying the Core of Light using his Hydra, blowing up Eon and banishing the Skylanders to Earth in the process. During the explosion, the old Portal Master was pulled into his own portal, no longer appearing in his true form, forever locked in the space between realms as a spiritual-like floating head.[1]

As Eon survived the destruction of the Core, he couldn't fight Kaos and The Darkness without his true form. He helped the new Portal Master by guiding them in some points of their trials to save Skylands. After Kaos was defeated, Master Eon gave the honor of sending Kaos to Earth to his assistant, Hugo. He then congrulated the new Portal Master for saving Skylands, but informs them that the journey with their Skylanders was only just the beginning.

3DS Version

Eon plays a small role in introducing the player to the Radiant Isles. After that, the Mystic Seekers take over the role of guiding the player.

Skylanders: Giants

Master Eon returned in the sequel, guiding the new Portal Master and showing them the history of the Arkeyan's rule over Skylands as well as the rise of the original Skylanders, the Giants. When the new Portal Master triumphed over Kaos and the Arkeyan army, Eon congratulated them on their victory, but revealed that the journey with their Skylanders, and Giants, was only just beginning.

Skylanders: Swap Force

Master Eon called upon the young Portal Master to help save the Cloudbreak Islands from the evil of Kaos and his mother. The Chieftess later summoned Master Eon to Woodburrow to introduce the young Portal Master of the Portal Master rank and give access to Bonus Missions and other collectibles.

Skylanders: Trap Team

After the Trap Masters were found on Earth, it was Master Eon who called upon his successor to assist the Skylanders once again to stop the Doom Raiders and Kaos from threatening Skylands.

Skylanders: Return of the Dragon King

When Spyro came to the Skylanders Academy to investigate on what was wrong with his powers, Master Eon was one of the individuals present. He accompanied Spyro, and later Hex, outside the Academy to talk with Persephone. When it was revealed that a fairy named Calliope had stolen their powers, Master Eon assigned powerful backup in the form of Wallop to accompany Spyro and Hex to track down Calliope, as they were in no condition on facing whoever the fairy was working for.

The Undead Dragon King Malefor soon approached the Skylander Academy to launch an attack on the school after Spyro, Hex and Wallop's disappearance. An army of Skylanders were summoned to protect the Academy, but were overwhelmed by Malefor, who then proceeded to absorb their powers with a crystal to make himself more powerful. Master Eon knew that they were dealing with one of the most dangerous creatures that ever walked the Skylands and was certain that they wouldn't need a miracle for what was to come, but they needed Spyro. It wasn't until Malefor breached the Academy walls did Master Eon challenge the evil dragon himself to protect his remaining Skylanders, unsuccessfully stopping Malefor from absorbing more powers from the fallen heroes. His threat however wasn't taken seriously by the evil dragon, who claimed that the Portal Master spirit had no power over him.

When Malefor was defeated by the Skylanders thanks to Calliope's redemption, Master Eon reassured the fairy that the Skylanders Academy would be rebuilt and that the Skylanders will help find the fairy's family.

Light in the Dark

Master Eon learned from Blackout and Spotlight of their candy predicament within some Arkeyan ruins. Before long, an injured Gearshift had arrived after being attacked by candy warriors created by the villain, Pain-Yatta. Master Eon then sent Gearshift to gather several Skylanders that were willing to fight the incoming candy army, while he assigned Spotlight and Blackout to investigate the Arkeyan ruins they were in previously for more clues.

After Pain-Yatta was defeated, Master Eon congratulated the Skylanders, particularly the Light and Dark Skylanders, for their efforts in stopping the candy threat.

Skylanders Issue #12 (Graduation Day)

It was Graduation Day at the Skylanders Academy when Master Eon oversaw the training simulation test the Minis were taking for their graduation. He appointed Pet-Vac as team leader, and when the Minis failed the test, Master Eon was confident that Pet-Vac would lead his fellow Minis to victory. When the Minis defeated the invading Doom Raiders later that day, the graduation went on as planned and Master Eon happily proclaimed the Minis as official Skylanders.

Rift into Overdrive

Master Eon was among the attendees of the last day of school party at the Skylander Academy. When Kaos escaped his Traptanium prison three months later, the old Portal Master became concerned when portal connections started cutting off all throughout Skylands, stranding many Skylanders. He summoned the Skylanders together at the Academy and helped explain a way to restore the Portal connection using mysterious Rift Engines. He later oversaw the defenses around the Academy along with Spyro.

As the Skylanders battled Kaos's armada to protect the Academy, Master Eon walked onto the battlefield to confront Kaos and attempted to convince the dark Portal Master of The Darkness he had no control over. This however fell on deaf ears and Eon became captured by Kaos.

Skylanders: SuperChargers

After his capture, Master Eon became imprisoned inside a cluster of Traptanium and was placed under Count Moneybone's watch in the Land of the Undead. He was eventually rescued by the Skylanders and lead his allies in the war against Kaos' Sky Eater and The Darkness, helping them with directions and sharing his knowledge of the world to find clues as to how to proceed. When the threat was defeated, Kaos suddenly took over Eon's role in thanking the Portal Master, much to the older wizard's surprise.

Outside of the story, Eon once again manages the Portal Master Rank information, and assists the player with stats and records, Stardust Emblems and Portal Master Powers.

Relationships

Spyro the Dragon

Master Eon guides Spyro during his days as one of the Skylanders, and as a result, the young dragon sees Eon as a mentor. However, ever since Spyro met the veteran Portal Master, he has been afraid that Eon would fall to Kaos. Master Eon trusts Spyro enough to allow the young dragon to assume the role of second in command in times of crisis, acting as a secondary leader to the Skylanders when Master Eon is absent.

Hugo

Eon appreciates his Mabu assistant, Hugo, in serving the old Portal Master around the citadel for many years, although he is slightly annoyed by Hugo's aversion for sheep.

Kaos

Although Kaos is a joke at a basic level in his attempts to take over Skylands (not to mention, annoying and has appalling dress sense), Master Eon knows that it is unwise to underestimate the evil Portal Master, as Kaos has shown that he can be a dangerous enemy.

Trivia

  • Eon is mentioned in the backstories of many Skylanders, having recruited them into the heroes they are today.
  • While in Spirit form, Eon bears a resemblance to Hektore, as both are floating heads, and Eon's helm has two spikes somewhat like those on Hektore's head.
  • Prior to SuperChargers, Master Eon's floating spirit head form didn't have a full body.
    • Through the comics between Trap Team and SuperChargers, he gradually changed from having his head visible to anyone to a full body form maintained by machinery to a mostly independent spiritual form, however the circumstances of those changes and how they were acomplished are unknown.
  • He slightly resembles Dr. Light from the Mega Man series as both have white beards.
  • It is likely that Eon is over 100 years old, as he is mentioned in many backstories of the Skylanders introduced in Skylanders: Swap Force.
    • This may be referencing his name as an eon is a very long period of time.
  • Master Eon's voice is most always in surround sound. The developers figured any guy whose official title includes the word "master" should also have a pretty sweet voice treatment.[3]
  • It is strongly implied that Master Eon's main element is Light, as hinted through Spotlight's creation, and his niece, Aurora, being a Light Sensei.
