[edit] Spyro the Dragon Series
[edit] Story
[edit] Avalar
It was Hunter's fault that Ripto entered Avalar in the first place, as Hunter's suggestions for Superportal coordinates 22475 - his birthday (2/24/75 in the Gregorian Calendar is assumed to be February 24, 1975) happened to bring Ripto, Crush, and Gulp to the realm. He made amends by helping Elora and the Professor bring Spyro to the realm, and, despite his inital doubts about the small dragon, Hunter befriended him, and helped him gain several orbs that were scattered around Avalar, as well as challenge him to races on the Speedways.
[edit] Forgotten Realms
After Ripto's defeat, Hunter moved to the Dragon Realms, and followed Spyro to the Forgotten Worlds in order to return the Dragon Eggs stolen by the Sorceress. At this time, he fell in love with Bianca, who eventually managed to win over, and who helped them defeat her former mistress.
[edit] Personality
Hunter is a laid-back, physically talented, and somewhat gullible character. While he's a loyal friend of Spyro and is knowledgeable about basic tasks (e.g. jumping), he seems to have trouble grasping the gravity of Spyro's missions. Hunter is at times naïve and gullible, and he can be tricked relatively easily.
Like his name implies, Hunter is an exceptional archer, and is strong and agile enough to hold his own in a fight, if need be. He is also a phenomenal skateboarder, and expresses jealousy when Spyro breaks his skateboarding records and pride when he doesn't.
He also seems to be a bit of a conspiracy buff, with an interest in space and extra-terrestrials (especially sheep in flying saucers).
Hunter hates to get wet. ("It's a cat thing...") However, in some of the levels, he is seen underwater wearing a scuba suit and goggles.
Hunter seems to enjoy traveling, as he appears content everywhere Spyro sees him.
[edit] The Legend of Spyro Series
[edit] Changes
Hunter is now depicted as a skilled Cheetah warrior from the Valley of Avalar. He is a member of the cheetah clan that settled in the Valley and seems to have some sort of rivalry with the clan chief, Prowlus. He retains his colors and bow and arrow, but he now has ringlets instead of spots, stripes on his forehead and more pointed ears, he has gotten taller, and he also wears a hooded coat with a reddish cape pinned to it with a yin-yang symbol.
[edit] Story
[edit] The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
Hunter was first mentioned in The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night when Spyro was aboard Skabb's flying arena ship, the Fellmuth. Like Spyro, he had been captured and sent a letter to the young dragon, delivered by Mole-Yair, warning him of the dark times ahead and reassuring Spyro that he has allies.
Hunter isn't mentioned again and doesn't make an appearance until the last scene of the game after the credits. The Chronicler is speaking to Spyro, who is trapped in the time crystal with Cynder and Sparx. As the camara pans out, Hunter is revealed to be watching over the crystal.
[edit] The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon
In The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, it is revealed that Hunter was sent by Ignitus to find Spyro and Cynder. He successfully finds them in the catacombs of the Mountain of Malefor and after saving them from the Golem, informs the two dragons that they had been in their crystal for three years. Realising the danger in staying in the catacombs, Hunter escorts them to the Valley of Avalar to make their way to the dragon city Warfang. On their first night in the Valley, however, they are all rendered unconscious by hidden attackers and they awaken to find themselves captive in a village by the Village's leader, Chief Prowlus.
Hunter is scolded for bringing dragons and dangers into the Valley but Hunter defends his actions and reminds Prowlus that Spyro is the one to defeat Malefor and that the dangers were already around them. When the village comes under attack by grublins, Prowlus reluctantly releases the dragons but refuses to allow Hunter to go when the grublins are fended off. He isn't released until Spyro and Cynder recover a missing member of the village, Meadow, and Prowlus apologises to Spyro and Cynder. Prowlus offers Hunter the use of the forbidden passageway to reach Warfang and in return Hunter offers an invitation to Prowlus that he is welcome to join them at any time.
Upon arrival at Warfang, Hunter and the dragons find that the City is under siege by Malafor's army and when they set out to find Ignitus, Hunter is separated from Spyro and Cynder. He waits in the courtyard by the city gates and whilst the rest of the cheetah villagers arrive to attack the army from outside the city, Hunter fends off a Troll that manages to break through the gate. When Spyro and Cynder finally meet back up with Hunter they kill the Troll and they watch as Malefor's army retreats.
However, the victory is short lived as the Golem from the Catacombs return and attacks the city. Hunter tells Spyro and Cynder to take cover and heads out to help destroy it. It's unknown what exactly he does to accomplish that but when Spyro and Cynder finally do destroy the Golem, Hunter is present to hear Malefor's plan and witnesses the resurrection of the Destroyer. Hunter and the rest of the cheetah warriors accompany the dragons through the underground passages to stop the destroyer and when that fails he helps to move the inhabitants underground where they may be safe.
Hunter is last seen emerging from the underground city after Spyro stopped the world from breaking apart. He is in awe of the sights around him and along with the others looks to the skies to watch a group of stars form a constellation of a dragon. Ignitus tells Hunter to help escort the moles in Warfang into the ruins.
[edit] Trivia
- Hunter was voiced by Gregg Berger (who also voiced Ripto) in Ripto's Rage!, Year of the Dragon, and Enter the Dragonfly.
- In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, Hunter entered in the code 2-2-4-7-5 on the Superportal keypad, claiming that it was his birthday. This could be interpreted as either 2/24/75 or 22/4/75. However, Insomniac Games (the developer) has indicated it was meant as Feb 24, 1975, making him 23 years old in Ripto's Rage!. This makes sense, as Insomniac is an American developer, so they use month/day/year format.
- Hunter seems to have an odd affinity for Flying Sheep Saucers, or at least, they have an odd affinity for him--in every Speedway level in Year of the Dragon, the player can control Hunter in a series of mini-games, all dealing with his attempt at thwarting an alien sheep invasion.
- Unlike many anthropomorphic animal characters, Hunter does not wear any clothing in most of his appearances, although he does wear a wetsuit for the manta ray minigames in "Ripto's Rage" and "Year of the Dragon" as well as a pair of shorts, pads and a helmet for the skateboarding minigames in Year of the Dragon.
- Hunter made a cameo in Crash Purple.
- Hunter is one of the only three characters, along with Spyro and Sparx, that appear in both the Legend of Spyro series the original series.
